8 Days, 7 nights - Istria from east to west

Short Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Arrival, transfer from Pula airport
  • Day 2: Walking - Opatija lungomare to Lovran and Mošćenička Draga
  • Day 3: Hiking - The top of Perun from Mošćenice
  • Day 4: Hiking - Vojak, the top of mountain Učka
  • Day 5: Transfer from Opatija to Rovinj, hiking on St. Simon path Gračišće
  • Day 6: Walking - Punta Corrente Rovinj
  • Day 7: Walking - Green and Blue lagoon Poreč, old town Poreč
  • Day 8: Departure, transfer to the airport

Day 1: Opatija - Arrival
Arrival at Pula airport, bustransfer to the hotel in Opatija. Presentation of the program and dinner.

Day 2: Opatija Lungomare
After breakfast, we set out together on the boardwalk, "Lungomare", that was built at the end of 19th century after order from the emperor Franz Joseph I. We are going in southerly direction towards Lovran and Mošćenice. The boardwalk is totaly 15 km long and follows the coast with a green and lush vegetation. We will stop in Lovran for lunch and in Mošćenice Draga for a swimming. It is possible to take the local bus back to Opatija.

Day 3: Perun
Today's goal is to climb the peak Perun, 922 m.a.s.l , which has been named after the king of the gods in the Slavic mythology. We will be transported to the picturesque village Mošćenice, from where we start our tour from 173 m.a.s.l. We walk through beech forests and small abandoned villages and make a lunch break before we climb Perun. Late in the afternoon when we finally back where we started, in Mošćenice. Transfer back to Opatija.

Day 4: Učka
Today we'll climb the Istrian pride - mountain Učka. We will be transported up to Poklon at 922 m.a.s.l. This location provides a beautiful view of Kvarner Bay and the islands of Krk and Cres. From here we start our trek up to the peak Vojak. After approx. two hours, we will reach the peak on 1401 m.a.s.l. The observation tower, built by locals in the early 2000s, gives us an even more interesting view. In clear weather one can see Slovenia and Italy from here. After a short break we start our descent by following the ridge down the to western side of the hill and round the top. Now with a beautiful view of central Istria. Almost back where we started, we will have a lunch in the local tavern “Dopo Lavoro”. Transfer back to Opatija.

Day 5: Rovinj via Gračišće
After breakfast we check out from the hotel. Together with our luggage, we will be transported to Gračišće, in central Istria. Today's hike starts in this small picturesque and well preserved medieval village with a steep descent. We pass the church of St. Simon. This saint also gave the name to this popular hiking trail. From here we have a view of Čepić valley and mountain Učka. The area is protected because of the dunes of marl which characterizes the landscape. After about an hour downhill we reach the largest waterfall in Istria - Sopot. Here we make a break before we continue towards the little church St. Maria Magdalene from the 1600s. After approx. 4 hours we are back in Gračišće, where we started. We will enjoy a lunch at the local tavern. Our transport takes us on to Pazin, where we get to see another natural phenomenon - the ravine Pazinska Jama. In the evening we finally reach Rovinj.

Day 6: Rovinj
Today we head out in the Punta Corrente area, a natural protected park just south of Rovinj. This park together with the largest island in the Rovinj archipelago - St. Andreas - was bought in late 1900 by the Austrian businessman George Huttenrot. Mr. Huttenrot created the park with lots of exotic trees and small paths. He spent much time in the park beside the sea. We also go past an old quarry where the stone was broken during the 1600s to build up the Church St. Eufemia in Rovinj. We end our walk with a short guiding in the old town. Free time for lunch on your own.

Distance: 10 km.


Day 7: Poreč
After breakfast we head down to the port of Rovinj. We embark the boat that will take us in northerly direction towards Poreč. We go past the Limfjord and the small fishing village Vrsar before we finally reach Zelena Laguna - The Green Lagoon - Poreč. Here we begin today's hike. We follow the coast through olive groves, past the small coves and beaches before we finally reach the center. Together we will explore the old town and see the St. Eufrasius church, built in the 600s and protected by UNESCO since 1997. Lunch in the center before we get transported back to Rovinj by boat.

Included: boattransfer, entrance to St.Eufasius basilica, lunch in Poreč.


Dag 8: Departure
After breakfast we check out. Bustransfer to Pula. Sightseeing of the old town before we go to the airport. (*B)
